Gilmour Council participates in a program to collect canned goods and other non-perishable foodstuffs for the 3 food banks operated by the parishes it serves. The council enlists its own members, area merchants, and the schoolchildren. The class in each school that collects the most food earns a pizza lunch for its efforts. The Council also collects cash and uses it to shop at Costco, or another such bulk store, where value can be maximized. Ben Capretta and Tom Nemeth pilot this effort.

During last year’s drive, Gilmour #310 collected over 1400 pounds of food and distributed it equally to the three parish foodbanks.
